As social media has grown in importance as a communications channel for politicians, so has the focus amongst Public Affairs professionals on how it can be used to engage and influence them. To shine light on this area, Grayling has partnered with social media intelligence firm Linkfluence to analyse the social media activity of members of Parliament across 17 European countries, as well as the European Parliament. For the first time on a Europe-wide scale, it allows us to reveal the impact of geography, gender, age and political alignment on the social media communications of MPs.
Ben will reveal the results for the Czech Republic, compare and contrast the Czech Republic with other European countries, and explore what the research means for those seeking to influence policy-makers.
As well as presenting the results of the research, Ben will consider:
► How to build digital / social media communications into effective advocacy campaigns
► How to get politicians’ attention online
► The internal challenges that can make digital advocacy challenging, particularly in big companies – and how to overcome them
Ben has been based in Prague since 2010, when he joined Grayling, initially in a role covering Central & Eastern Europe. He then ran Grayling’s office in the Czech Republic between 2011 and 2014, before moving into an international client servicing role across Europe as a whole. He has been Grayling’s Chief Operating Office for Europe since December 2020, overseeing offices in 17 countries, including 11 in CEE. He is a member of the agency’s European Board and sits on the leadership committee of its European Public Affairs network.
Before joining Grayling, Ben worked for ten years in London, latterly as a Senior Public Affairs Consultant at Hill+Knowlton Strategies.
